Save Our Schools America (SOSA) was founded in 2021 by Karen Moran, a former Florida schoolteacher, community activist, wife, mother, and grandmother. SOSA was established to educate and equip parents, grandparents, educators, and community members to become informed and engaged in the education of the next generation.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought increased attention to many of the challenges facing public education and gave families a closer look at what their children were being taught. SOSA believes parents should have a meaningful voice in their children’s education and access to clear information about curriculum, instructional materials, and educational policies.

SOSA supports strong academic foundations in reading, writing, mathematics, civics, and history. We believe students benefit from learning accurate, age-appropriate American history and gaining an understanding of the founding principles and documents that established our nation, including the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.

Through education and community engagement, SOSA seeks to help families and citizens better understand their rights and responsibilities and participate constructively in their local schools and communities. This includes encouraging parents and citizens to attend school board meetings, become informed about educational issues, engage with elected officials, and consider serving their communities through public office.

SOSA is committed to helping ensure that students receive an education that develops knowledge, critical thinking, civic understanding, and the foundational skills they need to succeed.
